Occasionally, the selection committee of the Maine Baseball Hall of Fame found itself being overcome with suggested nominees who had all played for the same team or perhaps the same collegiate baseball program over a short period of years.  Sonny Noel reasoned not all of the players in the team merited individual induction into the Hall, but they were a member

 of a special team and worthy of recognition. Thus began a tradition that continues to this day.
