Fred K Owen, whose pen name was Peter Piffle, moved from Lewiston,where he'd established a reputation as a keen baseball observer and writer, came to Portland in 1896. The veteran newsman, Portland Baseball and Athletic Association president in 1899 for more than 25 years via columns and game accounts, shared his expertise with the public.
